The Mesa City Council approved a three-year contract for electric utility construction, maintenance and emergency response services for the city’s Energy Resources Department during its June 16 meeting.
The vote passed 6-0 with Councilmember Jen Duff absent. According to council documents, the contract will secure hourly rates for electric line crew services from various qualified contractors.
“The city has multiple active and pending service projects that require dedicated electric utility crews to support ongoing development in downtown Mesa, including areas such as Site 17, Eco East, Legacy Square, the GRID and the EDGE on Main,” the council document reads. “In addition to supporting these efforts, Electric utility must also maintain adequate crew availability for routine outages and emergency response, particularly during the monsoon season (June through September), when storm-related damage is more likely to impact system reliability.”
City staff issued a request for proposals and got six responses back, according to council documents. Out of those six respondents, city staff recommended the contract be awarded to the four-highest scored respondents, which are MYR Group Inc., National Powerline LLC., Summit Line Construction Inc. and Wilson Construction Co.
According to council documents, the contract is termed for three years with a renewal option of up to two years. The contract is valued at $1 million annually and is funded by the Enterprise Pledge and Energy Resources Operating and Maintenance budgets.
