The Mesa City Council is set to vote on a contract for new traffic light controllers and video camera equipment for the transportation department at their upcoming meeting.
The meeting takes place at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 18 at 20 E. Main St. The council will vote on whether to approve a 3=three-year contract with Paradigm Traffic Systems.
The contract, if approved, would allow for the city to streamline its maintenance and improve its operational efficiency around Econolite’s central traffic signal system, while also supporting long-term infrastructure planning.
Paradigm Traffic Systems serves as an exclusive representative for Econolite products within Arizona, according to council documents.
“The city has invested in Econolite’s central traffic signal system and related technologies, making Econolite the preferred equipment provider,” council documents stated. “To ensure system compatibility and to avoid the additional costs and complexities of maintaining multiple hardware and software platforms, the city has standardized its operations around Econolite traffic signal controllers and video detection systems.”
The contract is set for three years with a two-year renewal option at $1,856,700 per year. The contract would be funded by the Transportation Department operating budget through the Local Streets fund.
