Mesa City Council approves contract for replacing pool covers at city facilities

Posted

The Mesa City Council voted 6-0 with council member Francisco Heredia absent to approve a $301,500 contract with Recreonics Inc. to replace pool covers at city facilities at their May 12 meeting.

The contract is termed for one year, and would provide replacement and additional thermal pool covers and storage reels which will reduce aquatic center heating costs during winter months, according to council documents.

Council documents also say the use of thermal covers will reduce utility heating costs by 50%.

“The city currently has thermal covers at two locations, Kino and Skyline Aquatic Centers. The covers at these pools have reached their lifespan and need to be replaced,” the council documents stated. “The storage reels at these locations are not necessary. The other four facilities, Brimhall, Carson, Mesa and Rhodes Aquatic Centers, need thermal covers and storage reels since they currently do not have any.”

According to council documents, the contract will be funded by the parks, recreation and community facilities operating budget through the CIP General Fund.

Four companies made requests for bids — Heritage Pool Group dba Recreonics Inc., Horizon Spa & Pool Parts Inc., Landmark Aquatic Services LLC and The Prophet Corp. The Parks and Recreation Department recommended the contract be awarded to the lowest bidder, which is Heritage Pool Group dba Recreonics Inc.
