MCSO deputies involved in Mesa shooting, suspect dead

Posted

A man was killed Thursday morning as members of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT team attempted to serve a search warrant in the 200 block of North Ellsworth in Mesa, MCSO officials said.

The shooting occurred just after 3 a.m. March 21 when the MCSO Tactical Operations Unit was serving “a high-risk search warrant” for an armed and dangerous suspect, according to a release.

“During the search warrant the suspect, an adult male, fired gunshots at our team and barricaded himself in the residence,” the release stated.

A short time later, the suspect left the home, armed with a rifle and confronted three members of the SWAT team, according to MCSO.

The suspect was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no injuries to deputies. An investigation is continuing, officials said.
