Mesa incoming City Manager Scott Butler has appointed Lance Webb as Mesa city engineer. Webb joined the city of Mesa engineering department in 2012 and was appointed as an assistant city engineer in 2022.

Webb replaces Beth Huning, who retired May 22 after an 18-year career as Mesa city engineer.

“Lance brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new position, having been involved in numerous public infrastructure projects over the past 13 years and helping us build Mesa,” Butler said in a release. “Throughout his tenure, Lance has shown tremendous leadership, and I look forward to seeing him excel as Mesa city engineer.”

Webb has worked in various roles and capacities in the engineering department, including leading and providing oversight on over 500 capital improvement projects in the city, totaling more than $1.4 billion in design and construction.

Prior to joining Mesa, Webb began his 22-year career working with CMX Engineering, supporting private development with master planning and engineering of water resources for both residential and commercial development. In 2008, he started working for Dibble Engineering to support their private and public work projects.

“It is an honor to be named as city engineer for Mesa. We have a very talented, dedicated staff in our department and I look forward to continuing working with them, our other departments, City Council and our public and private partners on dozens of construction projects across Mesa in the years to come,” Webb said in the release.

Webb, a Mesa native, received his bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Brigham Young University in 2003. He is also a certified floodplain manager and a certified public manager.
