The husband-and-wife owners of two Sunmed-Your CBD Store franchises in Mesa were both born and raised in Canada.

“That you might figure out when the odd ‘eh’ slips out during conversation but a lot of people are surprised when we tell them that while we were in our 30s, we spent five years living in a motor home traveling and working throughout the U.S. and Canada,” Tracy Klimczak said of him and wife, Tiana.

Prior to owning a Sunmed-Your CBD Store franchise, they spent 18 years teaching people how to cook healthy and maximize their nutrition. Learn more about the Klimczaks below.

Name: Mr. Tracy Klimczak and Mrs. Tiana Klimczak

Age: Tracy (56) Tiana (54).

Where do you call home: Gilbert, right on Superstition Springs Golf Course

Occupation: Owners of Sunmed-Your CBD Store, with two locations in Mesa: the northeast corner of Power and Broadway and also in Superstition Springs Center, second floor, near the food court and JC Penney.

Why you chose to work in your field: Throughout our 28 years of marriage, we have spent the majority of our time working in some form of health and wellness. Prior to owning a Sunmed-Your CBD Store franchise, we spent 18 years teaching people how to cook healthy and maximize their nutrition. Many families can accomplish this by making alterations to their food prep, diet and reducing — in some cases eliminating — the unhealthy fats and oils from their foods. Getting involved in Sunmed back in 2020 was a natural segue once we understood the benefits of “plant-science” vs pharmaceuticals. The joy and satisfaction of having someone return to our store to share with us how they have benefited from our products is amazing. Knowing that we helped individuals get improved sleep, reduced pain, relaxation, weight loss and numerous other health benefits for themselves and their pets, is truly a satisfaction like no other.

What I like most about what I do: The education that we provide individuals when we do consultations with them at our store is most enjoyable. When you have someone who has been suffering with a health issue, in some cases for years, and they leave with some hope and then return to share their positive results, it is quite remarkable. The ongoing education that we receive from our company is equally remarkable. Sunmed has its own in-house chief of science who works daily on the formulations that are proprietary to our brand. That commitment to research and development gives us such a real advantage over other brands in the sense that we are continually on the cutting edge of not just CBD and hemp but on all fronts of plant science. Our recent addition of Supergreens to assist in gut health and a Mushroom Blend for mood and focus are great examples our commitment to the overall health journey of our customers. Being aligned with a company like that brings major satisfaction.

What is something many people don’t know about you? We were both born and raised in Canada. That you might figure out when the odd “eh” slips out during conversation but a lot of people are surprised when we tell them that while we were in our 30s, we spent five years living in a motor home traveling and working throughout the U.S. and Canada.

How did you get into your career? Tiana developed a very severe skin rash and irritation that progressively got worse over the course of about three years. During that time there were many visits and consultations with dietitians, naturopathic doctors, MDs and specialists. Elimination diets, having our home inspected for mold and bacteria, switching to more natural soaps and detergents and many other solutions, home-remedies and medications were tried but the issue would eventually return. A friend who owned two Sunmed stores in Tucson sent Tiana some CBD topical cream to try. Even though she had tried other CBD — with no success — she gave it a try. Not only did the condition go away, it is now going on five years and the irritation has never come back. These positive results took place during the pandemic and even though the entire business world was in a state of confusion, we decided to jump in both feet and open our own stores so we could pay it forward and offer help and healing to others.

What originally brought you to the valley? My (Tracy’s) parents had been snowbirds coming to Mesa since 1987. When our green cards were finally approved and in hand — nine years and 11 months after the original application was filed — we thought that moving to the valley would be great because we could be with family for approximately six months of the year. The home we bought in 2005 is where we still live in today and it is only a couple miles away from where mom and dad spent their winters. Remarkably, our store is right down the street and in a location that mom used to go to as a dress shop. We enjoy telling people that we traded in the snow shovels for golf clubs and although both parents have now passed away, the memories of playing a game of golf once a week with dad in his 80s is a cherished memory.

One thing I want my clients/neighbors to know about me: We welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss any health issues you may be encountering or trying to prevent. We have seen so many people come to our store who were somewhat skeptical and had “tried everything else” and didn’t know where to turn and are now enjoying improved health. I guess this is also a great time to also clear up a common misconception that CBD is a form of marijuana and will get people “high.” This is simply not true. We would welcome the chance to have you come visit us at either of our stores so we can discuss some healthy options for your journey to good health.

What I am thankful for: After being married for 16 years we were finally blessed with the birth of our son TJ. We are commonly asked if we delayed starting a family or if there were complications over the years. The answer to both is “no.” We always wanted a family and as time went by, we often wondered why it hadn’t happened. We just assumed that God had a plan and we were not going to question it. Here we are today with a 12 — almost 13 — year old son and as Tiana can often be heard saying, “Life is good.”

People who inspired me (and how): Both Tiana and I were blessed to be born into great families so our parents and siblings have been major influences in our lives. Tiana is the youngest of four girls and I have one older brother. Tiana’s grandparents immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine and my father immigrated from Poland after World War II. There are many good “old country” values and a work ethic that has been instilled in us and for that we are very grateful.

How are you involved in the local community? As residents of the East Valley for almost 20 years we have thoroughly enjoyed all it has to offer and are doing our best to be involved. Over the years, we have been a major contributor to the United Food Bank as we know that their services are always in need. We have also been involved with the Mesa Relay for Life which is a program under the American Cancer Society umbrella. It was a huge honor for us a few years back when our business was the largest single contributor to that event for the year. Being thanked on the stage by the mayor was a special moment but the true satisfaction came from knowing that the efforts of our staff and customers were going to make a huge impact for those in need. As our son TJ continues to be a very active young man, it has also helped us become involved in different groups as well. It is not uncommon to see the Klimczaks at a local East Valley pickleball event, minor hockey game, swim meet, volleyball game or community theatre. Every parent understands that when your child is participating, the local group/team is likely in need of some volunteers and we do our best to fill those roles. Being a family-run business, we also understand the importance of supporting other local businesses. Our Mesa Chamber of Commerce has been a great partner in helping us be aware of what is going on in the local business community and we enjoy getting out to meet new and established businesses within the community. Recently we have started hosting paint nights at our store on Power and Broadway and this too has been a great way to give the community something fun to do on a night out.

What advice would you give to people entering your field? I think I will borrow a couple quotes to help with this point. It was world-renowned public speaker, pastor and motivator Zig Ziglar who said “people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Enter into your career with the clear understanding that your ability to help others will be your key to success. Whether it is a product or service you are providing, keep the customers’ benefits at the top of the list and you will do well.” The second quote I will reference was directed to me by my father. I know that many parents and business coaches have said the exact same thing, that being: “It’s not how much you make that matters but how much you keep.” Many times, working hard and doing well financially can create a feeling of entitlement. You may feel that you “deserve” some of the finer things in life. The rewards and “toys” are not something to spend a lot of money on in the early stages of your career. The longer you can live below your means, the better. We never know when that rainy day will come and if you delay the habit of saving money, that rainy day could be hard to navigate. Fancy cars, clothes, boats, etc., are great to have, but not when you need the money to grow your business and provide the necessities for yourself or your family. Delayed rewards are sweeter than premature ones.
