Michelle Anderson is the new president of the Higley Unified School District Governing Board.
Anderson was voted into the role by a 3-2 vote Jan. 17 over 2023 President Tiffany Shultz, who was nominated by Amanda Wade. Wade suggested keeping Shultz for consistency during a superintendent search.
Anna Van Hoek then was voted as board vice president by a 4-1 vote over Shultz.
Anderson is starting her third year on the board, having won election in 2020 and starting her term in January 2021.
Anderson, who has worked for more than 15 years in education, teaches chemistry and physical science in the Queen Creek Unified School District.
She also worked in the Higley district in human resources and as the governing board secretary. Her two children graduated from the district.

Community: He has served as an instructional professional in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication since 2005, and is editorial adviser to The State Press, the university's independent student media outlet. He also is director of operations for an 18U girls fastpitch softball team from Gilbert.
Education: Arizona State University with a BS in Journalism.
Random Fact: He lived in Belgium during his freshman year of high school.
