Family law clinic in Mesa putting law students to work

Modern Law, a family law firm based in Mesa, has launched its new clinic service.

The initiative provides limited scope family law assistance at reduced rates, leveraging the skills of Arizona State University law student interns, as well as students from other law schools, under the mentorship of seasoned attorneys, according to a release.

The office is at 1744 S. Val Vista Drive Suite No. 205.

Family law issues such as divorce and child custody often entail significant financial and emotional burdens. The Modern Law Clinic is designed to alleviate these challenges by offering cost-effective legal services while giving law interns invaluable hands-on experience. Supervised by attorneys with over two decades of expertise, these interns will provide essential legal support to Arizona clients, the release states.

Consultations are available a rate of $50, with ongoing legal assistance priced at $100 per hour. The clinic has eight law student practitioners, who will be guided by two experienced attorneys, two legal paraprofessionals and a paralegal manager.

“These students will assist with document preparation, trial skills coaching, document review, consultations and advice,” Billie Tarascio, owner of Modern Law, said in the release.

Tarascio has been a strong advocate for increasing access to legal services, offering clients various low-cost and do-it-yourself options for resolving family law matters. Modern Law provides access to legal paraprofessionals who assist with complex paperwork and can represent clients in court.

In addition to the new clinic, Modern Law continues to host Pro Bono Days every other month, providing free consultations to help clients understand their legal options. For information for family law options, go to MyModernLaw.com.
