The development is approximately 1,700 feet west of the southwest corner of North Recker Road and East Longbow Parkway in Mesa.
A four-story, 124-room hotel is to be constructed west of the southwest corner of North Recker Road and East Longbow Parkway in Mesa.
The Mesa Design Review Board on March 10 voted 5-0 to approve the preliminary design and landscaping for the 56,360-square-foot hotel and future commercial development on 3.4 acres. Board member Denise Dunlop was absent.

The property is zoned light industrial with a planned-area development overlay. There is existing shared access from Longbow Parkway, Planner Cassidy Welch told the board.
“It is currently vacant. The site plan is for an approximately 56,000-square-foot, four-story hotel. There is a future commercial pad to the north shown on the site plan,” she said. “The landscape plan is consistent with the Longbow Park design guidelines and landscape theme.”
The plant schedule includes mulga acacia, desert willow and ironwood trees, and shrubs such as Mexican honeysuckle, Texas sage and creosote bush.
The applicant is Chris Webb of Rose Law Group. The owner is Dover Associates LLC.
The development is to be constructed adjacent to the 18-hole, par 71 Longbow Golf Club.
“We’ve oriented this building to really maximize the views of the golf course. The proximity to Longbow is really a key aspect that we benefit from here with this hotel site, and so it has been oriented to have amenities and the majority of our windows able to benefit with interaction with the golf course itself as well as the trail that connects around the Longbow area — a fitness trail,” Jon Gillespie of Rose Law Group told the board.
In addition to the hotel, up to 4,100 square feet of supporting retail/restaurant and up to 550 square feet of patio space are planned. It is anticipated the hotel use, along with the site work for the entire site, will be developed in the project’s fist phase, with the retail/restaurant use in a second phase, according to a written project narrative.
“(T)he site is located immediately adjacent to the extensive open space of the Longbow Golf Club and the project has been designed to both complement and provide visual and pedestrian access to this open-space amenity,” it states. “The retail/restaurant buildings have been situated at the front of the site, adjacent to Longbow Parkway, and oriented with outdoor patios toward the street. The hotel building, although located at the rear of the site, is also oriented toward Longbow Parkway.”
The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
