Cooper to secure the Republican nomination in CD-4

Posted

While the Maricopa County Elections Department continues to count ballots from the July 30 primaries, Republican candidate for Congressional District 4 Kelly Cooper has released a statement on receiving the party nomination.

According to the latest numbers posted July 31 at 4:48 p.m., voter turnout was reported at 42.38% with 56,292 ballots cast in the Republican primary and 37.2% with 45,764 ballots cast in the Democratic primary.

Congressional District 4 had five candidates in the primary elections: standing District 4 Rep. Greg Stanton for the Democratic Party and Dave Giles, Kelly Cooper, Jerone Davison and Zuhdi Jasser for the Republican Party.

Rep. Stanton, running unopposed, will likely take the Democratic nomination, with 42,715 ballots cast in support. Stanton has yet to release a statement regarding the latest primary results.

Cooper, the probable Republican nominee, received 32.21% of the votes at 16,231 ballots cast for him in the primary.

Jasser received the second most votes at 26.81% with 13,511 ballots; then Giles received 23.2% with 11,691 ballots; and Davison trailed behind collecting 17.77% of votes for 8,956 ballots.

In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Cooper wrote that he was honored to have been chosen by voters to be the Republican nominee to “defeat the radical Greg Stanton.” He critiqued his Democratic counterpart for his support for open borders, defunding the police as Phoenix mayor and driving policies that have contributed to inflation.

“I look forward to over the next month working to gain the trust of all voters in my district, whether they are Democrats, Republicans or Independents,” Cooper stated. “I know all of Arizona is ready for a change for the better.”

If elected, Cooper said he would work to stop the flow of fentanyl into Arizona communities, fix the “broken” border and provide tools to fix economic problems that his constituents face.

In response to his statement, Cooper’s Republican opponents Jasser and Davison have released similar statements on his likely nomination and their participation in this race. Candidate Giles has yet to release a statement regarding the primary.

Election results will be official once canvassed.
