A Circle K convenience store with a fuel station is to be constructed on 1 acre at the northwest corner of Elliot and Signal Butte roads in Mesa.

The landscaping and design for the facility were discussed during the March 11 meeting of the Mesa Design Review Board. Chair Dane Astle, Vice Chair Justin Trexler and board member Paul Johnson were absent.

Perimeter landscaping is adjacent to Elliot and Signal Butte roads, Staff Planner Charlotte Bridges said.

“The site plan shows the construction of a 5,200-square-foot building and a 3,936-square-foot canopy. Fourteen parking spaces required and 19 parking spaces are provided on the site,” she said.

Steve Bowser of Helix Engineering LLC is the applicant. Circle K Stores Inc. is the owner.

The proposed project is intended to be constructed in a single phase, according to a written project narrative from Land Development Consultants LLC.

“The architectural design of the building and fuel canopy will incorporate contemporary design forms and colors to match the Elliot Road Tech Corridor. The structures feature a blue/gray color palette and incorporate a variety of contemporary materials, including Cementous wall panels, natural stone and metal window and doors frames,” it states. “Similarly, the fuel canopy incorporates the same colors and materials to provide a consistent architectural theme throughout the project.”

The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
