Mesa police identify victim in mobile home park fire

A 62-year-old man died in a fire last week at three mobile homes in Mesa that authorities said may have been arson.

The March 8 fire at 2121 N. Center killed Randy Floyd, police said Saturday.

Law enforcement officials said last week they found evidence of an accelerant at the scene that is suspected to have caused the blaze.

Mesa police responded to the fire just after 2 a.m. March 8, and Mesa Fire & Medical crews informed officers that one person was dead.

Because of the condition of the body, authorities had to wait for identification from the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner.

Until police receive confirmation on the cause of the fire and manner of death, the case will remain a suspicious death investigation, meaning that homicide or suicide cannot be ruled out, according to a release from the Mesa Police Department.
