The look and landscaping for a new two-story church building with offices, a warming kitchen and cafeteria to be constructed at St. Timothy’s Catholic School were discussed at a recent meeting of the Mesa Design Review Board.
A building will be demolished and replaced with a multipurpose building to serve the church and school west of Alma School Road and north of Guadalupe Road, Planner Evan Balmer said at the board’s June 13 meeting.
“Here you can see the site plan; we have three existing classroom buildings, the new two-story building on the frontage. There is shared parking with an entrance through the church south of this site,” he said. “It is an existing site, so there is existing landscaping including some sissoo that will be maintained on the site.”
Other trees and shrubs include Texas ebony, southern live oak, shoestring acacia, yellow lucky nut tree, valentine bush, pale leaf yucca, blue bells, desert senna, regal mist grass and torch glow bougainvillea, according to the landscape plan.
Vince Di Bella of Adaptive Architects Inc., is the applicant. St. Timothy Roman Catholic Parish — Mesa is the owner.
The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
