Goodyear City Council cleared the way last week to open the city’s first Raising Cane’s, a Baton Rouge-based fast-food chain known for its chicken fingers.
The restaurant is planned on the northwest corner of Dysart Road and Interstate 10 at the Palm Valley Cornerstone commercial center.
The 1.68-acre parcel was previously occupied by a Mimi’s Cafe, which will be demolished. When completed, the location will include a two-lane drive-thru.
Development plans are still being reviewed, but the location is expected to open in late 2022, according to the city of Goodyear.
Raising Cane’s was among the top-requested restaurants on Goodyear’s 2021 retail survey, which gathers feedback from city residents on the types of dining, retail and entertainment options they want to see available in Goodyear.
Raising Cane’s ranked sixth on the list of top-requested restaurants, after The Cheesecake Factory, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Postino, Outback Steakhouse and Pita Jungle.
Councilmember Wally Campell welcomed the business at the Dec. 13 city council meeting.
“We’ve been waiting 10, 15 years for Cane’s to come,” Campbell said. “We’re just delighted that you’re here in Goodyear.”
The chain currently has about 20 Valley locations, but the closest to Goodyear is at Gateway Crossing in Avondale.
