Nick Hansen named December Queen Creek Hometown Hero for dedication to community

Educator, first responder and entrepreneur bestowed local award

Posted

Nick Hansen, an educator, first responder and entrepreneur, is the December 2020 Queen Creek Hometown Hero bestowed in the “Emergency Responder” category for his dedication to protecting those a part of his community.

For more than a decade, Mr. Hansen has been serving as an engineer at the Queen Creek Fire Department, even serving in with Rural Metro prior to the formation of the municipal department.

“Nick has been serving the Queen Creek Fire Department for 12 years as an engineer,” said Queen Creek resident and proprietor Doug Wancura. “He has been a member of Network Together and runs his own business, Home Hazard Prevention, LLC. to support the safety in homes all over the Queen Creek area and beyond.”

Mr. Wancura nominated Mr. Hansen --- fire engineer at Queen Creek Fire Station No. 4 on Engine No. 414 --- for the December 2020 Hometown Hero award for his efforts outside his fire engine crew.

“His company exists to help prevent common household accidents through education and consumer products,” Mr. Wancura explained. “He also helps his clients with childproofing, car seat safety use and CPR training.”

Turns out, Mr. Hansen’s company, Home Hazard Prevention, won a 2015 Manufacturer’s Alliance for Child Passenger Safety Education Grant because of his dedicated volunteerism.

Mr. Wancura contends Mr. Hansen puts others first --- and, of course, his actions speak louder than words. “He is a role model for the community; first responder, and a wonderful father and entrepreneur,” Mr. Wancura points out.

For local Queen Creek residents looking for a child car seat inspection --- or infant CPR classes --- look no further than Home Hazard Prevention, locally owned and operated.

When asked what he likes about Queen Creek, ‘Safety’ Nick said he loves the hometown feel and the way the town’s elected officials are involved in the community.

“It is nice to know that the town is in such good hands. The town council cares about the town and its growth. They take the time to find out what needs to be done to do things the right way,” Mr. Hansen said.

The Queen Creek Independent, along with East Valley Institute of Technology, Sterling Services, and the Queen Creek Olive Mill salute Mr. Hansen as this month’s Queen Creek Hometown Heroes Awards recipient.
