Litchfield Park holiday light display winners could take home $100

Dec. 13 is deadline to enter

Posted

When it comes to decorating your home’s exterior for the holidays, are you a Clark Griswold, a Norman Rockwell or an inflatables fanatic? The city of Litchfield Park wants to know.

Residents who participate in the city’s Holiday Home Decorating Contest as part of its annual Christmas in the Park festivities will be included on a citywide holiday lights tour on litchfield-park.org, and one skilled competitor in each category will win $100 and receive a decorative yard sign to announce their winning status to those who drive by to see their light display.

Participants are asked to decorate the outside of their homes by Sunday, Dec. 13, for judging to be held Dec. 14 and 15. Winning homeowners will be notified by Dec.18.

To enter, residents should visit litchfield-park.org, scroll down to the decorating contest link under the Litchfield Park News tab and choose their category:

• Clark Griswold (from the movie, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”) is for homes that have an over-the-top spectacular lighting display. Judges will make their decision based on the “WOW factor” from the number of lights involved, as well as the brightness, liveliness and detail put into the display.

• Norman Rockwell (the artist best known for capturing the essence of 20th century America in Saturday Evening Post magazine cover art) is for homes featuring old-fashioned, traditional and nostalgic holiday displays.

• Inflatable Fun is for homes with five or more inflatables incorporated into their display. Judging will be focused on fun and creative use of inflatables.

For more information or to sign up for the contest, call 623-935-9040 or visit the city’s website.
