Litchfield Park aims to change city website from dot-org to dot-gov

Posted

Staff at Litchfield Park are working to change the city’s website domain extension from dot-org to dot-gov.

The city’s official domain name is Litchfield-Park.org, but city staff would like to make the switch to lpaz.gov, city manager Matthew Williams said during a Dec. 15 council meeting

“Most cities are a dot-gov, not a dot-org,” Williams said, adding the city has requested the domain name and is still waiting to hear back.

The city’s website is hosted by CivicPlus, a web hosting service for local governments that claims to have 4,000 clients and more than 100,000 local government users.

CivicPlus clients, like Maricopa County, have a dot-gov domain extension, while others, like the city of Trenton, New Jersey, have a dot-org extension.

It appears lpaz.gov is not yet registered.
