Evander: Will law have an effect?

Posted

There is a lot of angst in the news about Texas’s SB 4 law that would allow law enforcers in Texas to arrest suspected migrants on a misdemeanor charge if they are in the U.S. illegally.

The law also allows judges to order the deportation of these migrants to a port of entry between Texas and Mexico without consideration of what country the migrant is a citizen of. Mexico has already indicated that they will not accept these migrants unless they are Mexican citizens. Most of these migrants are not from Mexico.

If Texas is unable to successfully deport these people into Mexico, then the law will have no effect except to significantly increase the chaos and cost within Texas and fail to meet whatever the intent of the law was claimed to be.

And just what will it look like at these ports of entry with perhaps thousands of migrants not allowed to enter Mexico and not allowed to reenter Texas?
