With a teacher shortage happening throughout the Valley, Dysart Unified School District used an incentive program last winter and spring and it worked.
Approximately $279,000 was spent after district officials received approval from the governing board in the winter of 2020 and spring of 2021 to incentivise substitute teachers, which Dysart Unified School District refers to as guest teachers to teach at Dysart schools.
Last year, John Croteau, assistant superintendent for human relations, said there were 291 guest teachers in the pool to work with, but prior to offering the incentive, only 76 of those guest teachers working in the district at any given time.
