OPINION — I read Delarita Ford’s front-page article: DUSD teaches voters about latest bond proposition.
We have lived in Surprise for more than a decade and I believe few district propositions have been successful. Approximately one-half of all property taxes support DUSD. One of the major reasons for the failure to pass propositions is because taxpayers are kept in the dark regarding student academic scholarship.
I ask, what percentage of students are proficient in math, science and English? Where does DUSD rank against other school districts in the county and beyond?
Your newspaper is quick to cover news regarding DUSD athletics, clubs, theater, etc. I am pleased that some students have excelled and received university scholarships. But, what about the majority of students?
I suggest the best way for DUSD to succeed in winning propositions is to often share academic statistics proving that the district deserves additional funding.
