Goodyear Councilwomen Sheri Lauritano and Wally Campbell will represent the city on multiple National League of Cities member councils in 2021, playing key roles among a diverse group of local leaders in shaping policy positions and advocating on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the administration and at home.
Ms. Lauritano recently was appointed vice chair of the NLC’s Public Safety & Crime Prevention Committee.
In the role, she will work with Chairman Alan Wapner of Ontario, California, and 36 members from across the country to develop policy positions in local government on issues involving crime prevention, municipal fire policy, disaster preparedness and relief, corrections, substance abuse, homeland security domestic terrorism, court systems and gun control.
Mesa Councilman Mark Freeman is the only other Arizonan serving on the committee. To see the full roster of members and learn more about the committee's policies and resolutions, visit nlc.org and click on the Advocacy Center link.
A Goodyear resident since 1995, Ms. Lauritano has served on the council since 2010.
The mother of two has been practicing law since 1994. A partner in the firm of Bain & Lauritano PLC specializing in criminal and family law, Ms. Lauritano previously served as a prosecutor with the city of Phoenix, where she headed the Domestic Violence Unit.
She also holds a real estate license with her husband’s firm, Arizona Pro Realty.
Before joining the council, Ms. Lauritano served on the city Planning and Zoning Commission, and City Center Committee.
Ms. Campbell recently was appointed chair of the Military Communities Council, president of the Women in Municipal Government Group and was selected for the NLC Advisory Group.
In her Military Communities Council leadership role, Ms. Campbell, who was married to the late U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. John Campbell for 53 years, will work to ensure that the unique needs of military communities are reflected in NLC’s advocacy efforts and policy discussions.
