Steven Flores, a native of Avondale, Arizona, is one of the sailors continuing a 123-year tradition of service under the sea aboard USS Annapolis, operating out of San Diego, California.

Flores, a 2018 graduate of Lavoya Community High School, joined the Navy two years ago.

"I joined the Navy to serve my country and save lives," said Flores. "I'm aspiring to be a Navy SEAL or Navy diver in the future. Right now, I'm just a qualified submariner hoping to protect Taiwan from China."
