Transportation crews this weekend will set work zones for an improvement project at the Interstate 10 interchange at Jackrabbit Trail.
The two-year project will provide new freeway bridges, widen the on- and off-ramps at Jackrabbit Trail and make cross street improvements in the area, state transportation officials said Wednesday.
Here’s what drivers can expect this weekend as crews set work zones for initial work at the interchange:
The eastbound I-10 off-ramp and westbound I-10 on-ramp at Jackrabbit Trail will be closed from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Detours will be available via the I-10 interchanges at Verrado Way and Perryville Road. The southbound Jackrabbit Trail also will be closed Saturday between McDowell Road and Roosevelt Street.
The I-10/Jackrabbit Trail interchange improvement project also will require future closures or lane restrictions along I-10, Jackrabbit Trail and on- and off-ramps, according to ADOT.
The project will allow crews to remove and reconstruct the existing I-10 bridges over Jackrabbit Trail and widen Jackrabbit Trail to three lanes in each direction from McDowell Road to just south of the interchange. Traffic signals will be added, and the on- and off-ramps will be widened to provide additional turn lanes.
The reconstruction of the I-10/Jackrabbit Trail interchange is funded through the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Proposition 479 Regional Freeway Plan. Funding sources include a half-cent sales tax for regional transportation projects approved by Maricopa County voters in 2024.
