The Super Bowl put Glendale front and center last month. This week it’ll be Taylor Swift’s turn.
The 12-time Grammy winner opens her Eras Tour with two shows at State Farm Stadium. Opening night is Friday, March 18, followed by a second show Saturday, March 18.
It marks the second time Swift has opened one of her tours in town. She also opened her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018 at State Farm Stadium.
Her most recent album, “Midnights,” released this past October, went to #1 in nine different countries.
After hosting the third most viewed game in Super Bowl history and now one of the world’s biggest stars in the span of one month, Glendale is getting in on the fun.
At 9 a.m. Monday, March 13, the city will host a press conference at the Glendale Media Center, 9494 W. Maryland Ave., where Mayor Jerry P. Weiers will read a proclamation revealing the city of Glendale’s temporary “new name,” which will be in effect for both concert days. Swift won’t be there, and the event will not have tickets available.
Tickets for the Glendale shows made national news back in November.
Thousands of fans were frustrated over the ticket-buying process, and reportedly waited hours only to get booted from website, or were not able to buy tickets at all.
After the "verified fan" presale process did not go smoothly and then the general sale was canceled altogether, Swift posted on Instagram that the whole thing was "excruciating" for her to watch.
“It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them,” she posted on social media.
The whole mess led to Congressional action.
U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Mike Lee (R-UT), Chairwoman and Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust and Consumer Rights, in November announced a hearing to examine the lack of competition in the ticketing industry.
Swift is the first and only woman solo artist to win the Album of the Year Grammy three times for her solo recordings: 2009 for “Fearless,” 2015 for “1989”and, most recently, 2020 for “Folklore.”
