The Chandler City Council, administration and staff from several departments have discussed the impact of inflation in several contexts.
One of the impacts is the rising cost of some the infrastructure and supplies needed to keep basic city services running.
Council approved a one-year, $12.58 million set of contracts with 10 suppliers on Aug. 13 for water treatment chemicals.
Chandler leaders have stated water coming into the city has needed more treatment in recent years.
The contracts run through Aug. 14, 2027, and include the option of as many as four one-year extensions.
The 10 companies awarded bids were Brenntag Pacific, LLC; Chemrite Inc.; Environmental Operating Solutions Inc.; Hill Brothers Chemical Co.; Pencco Inc.; Polydyne Inc.; PVS DX Inc.; Thatcher Company of Arizona Inc.; Univar Solutions USA Inc.; and Veolia WTS USA Inc.
Three other firms — Aquafit Chlorination Systems LLC, C5 Technology Group LLC and Hasa Inc. — also were among the 13 companies to respond to the request for bids, but weren’t selected.
The agreements will be used to purchase bulk and packaged water and wastewater treatment chemicals for use at the city’s treatment facilities and swimming pools, a staff report states. The Public Works & Utilities Department will use these agreements for water, wastewater, reverse osmosis and well systems treatment.
The Community Services Department will use the contracts for swimming pool chemicals.
Chemicals used by the Ocotillo Brine Reduction Facility are paid for by Intel. None of the chemical purchases are considered part of capital-plan funds.
The money comes from eight different city funds. A lion’s share of $3.5 million comes from the wastewater individual treatment Ocotillo Brine Reduction Facility chemical fund.
