Scott Libby Elementary School’s parent teacher association has been awarded a $2,500 grant by the National PTA to continue its efforts to meet critical needs of students, families and teachers in their school community due to COVID-19.
The grant was made possible by PTA Proud national sponsor Mountain America Credit Union, according to a news release. In 2020, the Litchfield Park school’s PTA received a $5,000 COVID-19 relief grant from the National PTA.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is not over, and National PTA and PTAs nationwide remain committed to making sure students, families, teachers and schools have what they need during this challenging time,” National PTA President Leslie Boggs said in a prepared statement.
“Scott Libby PTA has been working hard every day to provide essential resources, tools and information to support families and educators amid the pandemic,” she said. “With the grant, Scott Libby PTA will be able to continue to provide critical support to their school community.”
The money will help Scott Libby PTA’s Male Engagement Committee create reusable, at-home, age- and grade-appropriate STEM kits for students.
“You are all incredible. The investment in our kids is beautiful,” said Krystal Contreras, a second-grade teacher at the school. “Thank you!”
The grants were among $1.5 million in funding National PTA has provided to parent teacher associations across the country for COVID-19 relief efforts, the release stated.
“With the grant funding, PTAs will be able to continue their important and impactful work,” National PTA Executive Director Nathan R. Monell said. “We are grateful to our sponsors, including Mountain American Credit Union, for enabling us to provide resources to PTAs to help them care for their school communities.”
In addition to COVID-19 relief grants, the Utah-based credit union also supports National PTA’s leadership development initiatives, the release stated.
Mountain American has 95 branch locations in Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah, including those in Goodyear and Glendale. For more information, visit macu.com.
