The Glendale Boys & Girls Club, Louis and Elizabeth Sands Branch, recently received a technology boost from Cox Communications.

Malcolm Mitchell, Super Bowl LI champion with the New England Patriots, children’s author, and literacy advocate, helped with the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the upgrade.

The Cox Innovation Lab at the Club offers cutting-edge technology, hands-on STEM experiences, and a revamped reading nook—allowing after-school students to complete homework more effectively while building science, technology, engineering, and math skills.

As part of its commitment to bridging the digital divide, Cox partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to establish 20 Innovation Labs across the Valley.

Mitchell, who is also the Cox Digital Opportunity Ambassador, shared his book, A World Within Reach, with the children in a reading. Every child received a personal copy of the book, and the club received additional books.

The story follows Mylo Maxey, a curious and fearless young boy, on a journey about the thrill of discovery through the power of reading and staying connected.

In Mitchell’s own words, his goal is to inspire hope. “I hope they learn that the world is truly within reach and, with that understanding, set bigger goals and have unwavering confidence that they can do and be anything with their life,” he wrote.
