Through July 24, school supply donations are needed. Items include backpacks, notebooks, markers, pencils, pens, tissues, binders, pencil pouches, highlighters and erasers.

Salvation Army volunteers will load the donated backpacks with these supplies and distribute them to children in need.

Struggling families tend to focus limited finances on food and other essentials. The purpose of this annual drive is to help fill in the cracks and provide children with the resources needed for a positive start to the school year.

The Glendale Corps’ backpack and school supply distribution event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, July 25 at the Salvation Army Glendale Corps location.

Until until Sept. 4, heat relief donations are also needed, including cases of 16.9-ounce bottles of water. Those most at risk from heat exposure also need things like sunscreen, sunglasses (used okay), hats, umbrellas and lip balm.

Summer clothing, including shorts, flip flops and T-shirts, are also being accepted. Every summer the Salvation Army tries to offer these crucial supplies to those in need.
