Luke commander joins climbers at Glendale tower challenge

U.S. Air Force Col. Nicholas Ihde, 56th Fighter Wing commander at Luke Air Force Base, delivered a speech and oath of enlistment to new recruits before a 9/11 Tower Challenge at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Sept. 11..

The event commemorated the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and honored the courage, service and sacrifice of those affected by the attacks.

First responders, active military and many members of the general public climbed 2,071 steps during the 100 Club of Arizona’s 9/11 Tower Challenge, matching the 110 flights of stairs in each World Trade Center tower to honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
