WEST VALLEY PREPS

Ironwood football grounds Glendale rival

Ironwood was set up to collapse in the third quarter after getting down to the Kellis 1-yard-line and coming away with no points after a penalty and a blocked 23-yard field goal.

The Eagles still trailed 14-13 midway through the third quarter. Instead of imploding, this year’s Ironwood team regrouped, made plays on defense and doubled down on a productive running game.

The visiting Eagles scored the next 16 points and rolled up 389 yards on 46 carries Sept. 17 to beat Kellis (2-2) 29-20.
