Stage Left Productions continues its 10th season with Beth Henley’s “The Miss Firecracker Contest” in July.
From the author of “Crimes of the Heart,” “The Miss Firecracker Contest” is a comedy for which Henley is best known. Its heroine, Carnelle, is an irrepressible young woman who thinks that winning the local beauty contest will restore her soiled reputation and make her somebody in her small Mississippi community, a theater press release explains.
In her fourth appearance with Stage Left, Lauren Isherwood plays the role of “Carnelle.”
Her other credits with the West Valley theater include “Silent Sky,” “Fox on the Fairway,” and “Collected Stories,” which earned her a leading actress nomination at the 2022 AriZoni Awards.
Playing the role of “Elaine” is Melody Startzell who was last seen on the Stage Left stage in “The Cottage” as “Marjorie.” Thomas F. Graca, a Stage Left veteran, will be playing “Mac Sam.” Rounding out the cast are three new performers to Stage Left: Nicholas John Gearing as “Delmount,” Julie Teplik as “Tessy,” and Amber Young as “Popeye.”
“The Miss Firecracker Contest” runs Friday, July 11 through Sunday, Aug. 3. Performances run Thursdays through Sundays. The run time is approximately two hours and the show is appropriate for ages 16 and older.
Tickets are $30.
