Glendale Planning Commission greenlights pawn shop

Pawn Co. will move into vacant store

The Glendale Planning Commission unanimously approved a conditional-use permit June 25 for a business Pawn Co. CEO Guy Dryer dubbed a “modern-day pawn shop.”

This pawn shop is now free to move into an unoccupied storefront on northwest corner of 51st Avenue and Thunderbird Road next to Lovet Pet Health in Thunderbird Plaza. The city council does not need to approve the permit.

“They have the perception of the old pawn shops, of what they used to be and how they weren’t regulated and everybody brings stolen stuff,” Dryer said. “In today’s world, we would be the nicest location on all four corners by far. We put a lot of money into it and you saw the photos of our stores.”
