Kane Brown, Crown Royal surprise Packages From Home founder Kathleen Lewis

Packages From Home, a Glendale based military care package nonprofit, was featured on this month’s Country Music Awards (CMAs) with country music stars, Kane Brown and Reba McEntire.

Packages From Home partners with whiskey-brand Crown Royal as part of their Purple Bag Project to support those serving in the military.

Legendary musician and event host Reba McEntire brought the organization’s founder Kathleen Lewis on stage at the event to honor her dedication to supporting the troops. She was thanked by country music star Kane Brown and a group of veterans for her work in supporting America’s Heroes with partner Crown Royal.

Ms. Lewis was presented with thank-you notes in the one-millionth packed bag from the Purple Bag Project.

“Let’s give her a big rip-roarin’ round of applause,” Ms. McEntire said after introducing Ms. Lewis and her work founding Packages From Home to support the troops.

Packages From Home is located at 5643 N. 52nd Ave., Glendale.

Packages From Home was started by military mom, Ms. Lewis, whose son joined the U.S. Army infantry after watching the twin towers fall on 9/11. While he was deployed, his mother began sending him care packages. She realized he was the only soldier in his unit receiving care packages so she rallied her friends to “adopt” his unit.

From there, Packages From Home was born. Sixteen years later the organization is still sending care packages.

Last year alone, Packages From Home sent more than 10,000 care packages overseas and impacted the lives of around 40,000 military men, women, veterans, and military working dogs.

Packages From Home is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies completely on financial support from the community.
