On Oct. 25 at the Arizona State Capitol, Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers completed a historic feat; he flew the same locally made American flag at all 50 U.S. State Capitols.
“What a journey,” Weiers stated in a press release. “The patriotism across our great nation is still alive in every state. This flag is a symbol of unity – recognizing we are 50 States, 1 Nation!”
The flag of the United States of America has been a symbol of strength, unity, pride and inspiration for millions of American citizens. Since that first Congressional Act establishing an official flag in 1777, the American flag has been displayed around the world and beyond.

The flag of the United States of America has been a symbol of strength, unity, pride and inspiration for millions of American citizens. Since that first Congressional Act establishing an official flag in 1777, the American flag has been displayed around the world and beyond.
The initiative aimed to foster national pride and honor America’s history, future and the dedication of its veterans. As part of this effort, a locally made American flag was flown at all 50 U.S. State Capitols.
“Although we live in different places, come from different backgrounds, sometimes speak different languages, and worship in different ways. We are all Americans! As America’s 250th anniversary approaches, let us not just mark a date, but instead let us renew our commit-ment to liberty, to justice, to equality, and to being one nation under God,” Weiers stated.
In anticipation of the 250th birthday of the United States, on July 4, 2026, Weiers completed his seven-year journey across the U.S., as Old Glory flew at every State Capitol in the U.S.A., and in San Juan, Puerto Rico (a U.S. Territory).
With the tour now complete, his goal is to build and offer a user-friendly exhibit that Arizona cities may request to have displayed for any patriotic event. Follow this link to see images from each state.
