Glendale man arrested for decapitation of mother, charged with murder

The Glendale Police Department identified 25-year-old Alejandro David Gonzalez as the suspect in the weekend homicide of his mother.
At about 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, Glendale Police responded to a residence near the 4400 block of West Keim Drive, regarding an unknown call for service. The callers reported finding their family member, identified as 49-year-old Teresa DeJesus Cruz Rubio, dead.
Officers arrived and confirmed the report, discovered the decapitated body Cruz Rubio. Homicide detectives continued the investigation.
Police learned the family had prepared a surprise birthday celebration for Cruz Rubio. At around 3:40 p.m., family members contacted her and she agreed to gather with them.
When the victim failed to show up, the family became concerned and went to her home where they discovered her decapitated body.
Additional information led detectives to believe Gonzalez, was involved. According to the report, he stole the victim’s vehicle and was seen travelling alone, westbound at around 4:52 p.m. At around 5:18 p.m., Gonzales contacted family members using the victim’s cell phone.
The stolen vehicle was discovered by Phoenix Police at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 28, near 99th Avenue and Interstate 10. Alejandro was taken into custody and transported to the a Glendale Police station for questioning.
According to the report, after being read his Miranda rights, Gonzalez admitted to stabbing his mother numerous times using a kitchen knife, then decapitating her.
Gonzalez was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and was charged with first-degree murder and theft of means of transportation.
According to the police report, Gonzalez's family said he has mental health issues and had recently been released from jail.
