Glendale high school students earn national DECA honor

Mountain Ridge seniors honored

Several seniors at Mountain Ridge High School, 22800 N. 67th Ave., have earned the 2022 DECA Emerging Leader Honor Award.

The students are members of DECA and The Academy of Entrepreneurship at Mountain Ridge, and include Mikayla Keys, Manasi Khandekar, Salil Naik, Anaika Sangelkar, Monique Barrios, Briana Larios, Michael Petrovan, Jared Vargas, Brayden Bentley, Natalie Martalogu, Kaushik Nerusu and Parmvir Bajwa.

This award recognizes students studying marketing, finance, hospitality and management for being an academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible leader through participation in DECA.  The award recipient must be a DECA member in their senior year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2.

The Ridge DECA chapter advisors are Debbie Moore and Jeff Samaniego.

DECA is a career and technical student organization composed of more than 150,000 students, and enhances preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning connect to business and promote competition.

The Academy of Entrepreneurship has been honored with the Distinguished Level by the National Academy Foundation. The Academy of Entrepreneurship at Mountain Ridge is the link to careers in entrepreneurship, marketing, hospitality or business management. Students are encouraged to develop projects in areas of specialized interest, such as fashion merchandising, advertising, sports and entertainment marketing, travel and tourism, medical, engineering, innovative apps, or international business.

Mountain Ridge offers curriculum using the National Academy Foundation and competitions with DECA within the marketing strand.
