Glendale Fire crew stops Fry's fire, delivers birthday cakes

The first Glendale City Council voting meeting in the renovated council chambers Aug. 11 ended with a somewhat spontaneous shoutout from Mayor Jerry Weiers to the Glendale Fire Department for a thoughtful thing they did in the community.

On Aug. 4 the crew of Glendale Fire Engine/Hazmat 157 responded to a exterior fire at Fry’s Food Store at 5116 W. Olive Ave.

The store’s utilities had to be secured for safety reasons, so all refrigeration equipment was shut down — including cases holding several birthday cakes awaiting pickup that day.
