Glendale celebrates 60 years of community college

The city of Glendale celebrates the 60th anniversary of Glendale Community College.

To commemorate this significant milestone, GCC hosted an anniversary celebration on April 1, where hundreds of students, staff, alumni, and community members gathered to celebrate the college’s history and achievements.

“I would like to wish Glendale Community College a happy 60th birthday,” stated Glendale Mayor, Jerry P. Weiers in a press release. “GCC has been a pillar in our community and offers our citizens an opportunity for higher education.”

Since opening its doors in 1965, GCC has grown into one of the region's largest institutions, offering an array of academic, vocational and extracurricular opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds.

“The impact that this institution has had on countless lives over the past 60 years is immeasurable,” stated Dr. Tiffany Hernandez, GCC President. “From the young, first-generation student nervously trying to find their way in life, the adult learner returning to school, determined to get a fresh start, the faculty member experiencing the joy of sharing their knowledge, to the staff who know that the job they do is helping to transform lives - GCC has impacted us all.”

Since 1965, GCC has welcomed over half a million students, and offers 41 associate degrees, 61 certificate programs, and a range of non-degree offerings, all available to students in traditional, online and hybrid formats.

“I am very thankful for their partnerships and programs we have been able to develop with Glendale Community College. They are a huge advocate for my Stand Up to Veterans project, which is crucial to honor those who serve our great nation,” Weiers stated.
