The Academy of Math and Science Glendale campus welcomes the public to its Community Easter Egg Hunt this month.
This free event is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12 at the school, 4540 W. Glendale Ave., Glendale.
Students, friends, family and the local community can enjoy a morning of food trucks, face painting, music, and a special visit from the Easter Bunny.
In 2000 Tatyana Chayka, six years after she emigrated with her family from Uzbekistan, founded the Academy of Math and Science with partner Sergey Shayevich, in Tucson.
The goal was to offer a superior education in mathematics and science while still incorporating foreign language, music, and art.
This charter school network now has six tuition-free K-8 schools in the Valley, three more in Tucson and is opening another in Little Rock, Ark. The Walton Family Foundation was a crucial contributor during the school's early years and continued to send the schools grants through the 2010s.
Erik Greenberg is now the academy's CEO, while Chayka and Shayevich serve on the board of trustees for the district.
