Carey joined the Navy 13 years ago. Today, he serves as a fire controlman.
“I joined the Navy to see the world,” Carey said. “I always liked exploring as a kid, and the Navy gave me a way to see places I never would have been able to otherwise.”
ATG San Diego plays a crucial role in maintaining a highly trained and prepared naval force, contributing to the US Navy’s ability to respond to various threats and carry out diverse missions. ATGSD’s role extends to evaluating and certifying all Pacific Fleet ships to ensure they meet the evolving standards required for naval and joint combat operations.
The U.S. Navy is celebrating its 250th birthday this year.
With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber-optic cables, Navy officials emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting from across America.
Carey has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.
“My proudest accomplishment is receiving the Admiral Stavridis Leadership Award in 2022,” Carey said. “This award is given to outstanding junior enlisted personnel, and it’s the main reason I picked up the rank of chief petty officer.”
Carey is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.
“I want to shout out and thank Danilay Stilchen, an instructor from my JROTC in high school,” Carey added. “Without her, I would not be here today.”
