Glendale gears up for the New Year when it installs two new city council members who will take the reins in the Cactus and Yucca districts in 2025, and officially recognize returning Mayor Jerry Weiers and returning councilmember Ray Malnar of the Sahuaro District.

The ceremony will begin about 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 after the regular, City Council voting meeting in Glendale Civic Center at 5750 W. Glenn Drive.

Lupe Conchas Jr., defeated Vice Mayor Ian Hugh in the November election for the Cactus District, and Diana Guzman, who won a seat in the Yucca District race against Lupe Encinas after incumbent council member Joyce Clark decided not to seek reelection.

Mayor Jerry Weiers was re-elected after running unopposed, as was council member Ray Malnar - who will appear in a video at the ceremony.

Glendale Presiding Judge Nicholas C. DiPiazza will administer the oaths of office for Weiers, Guzman and Malnar, while Judge Enrique Medina-Ochoa, Justice of the Peace at Maricopa County, will guide Conchas through his oath of office.

There will be a presentation of the colors. The public can mingle with the elected officials and their loved ones over refreshments after the ceremony.
