Business-related annexation proposals fill Glendale council agenda

As part of a fairly routine day of Glendale City Council meetings Aug. 26, three different annexation proposals at three different stages are on the docket.

Staff will introduce a new proposal to annex 8.5 acres for industrial development at the northwest corner of Reems Road and Myrtle Avenue. Properties to the east and south are within the city’s boundaries, with Maricopa County land to the north and west.

Property owner Woudenberg Properties requested the annexation. It intends to build two buildings totaling 26,056 square feet, which could be for leased warehouse space or leased manufacturing.

The council will hear the proposal at its workshop, which begins at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, in the Glendale Civic Center, 5750 W. Glenn Drive.

Then the council will vote on phase two of Three Rocks Mining at its voting meeting, which starts at 5:30. It is a 39-acre annexation proposal.

Property owner MR Tanner Mining, Inc., plans to rezone the land to heavy industrial with a special use overlay for mining. Three Rocks intends to mine at the site for about 10 years.

Following this vote, the  council will conduct a public hearing on the annexation of the alignment of 81st and Myrtle avenues, three miles west of downtown. It is a half-acre of abandoned roadway.

If approved, this annexation clears the way for a 75-unit multi-family development on property already incorporated into Glendale directly south of Myrtle.
