James Avery Artisan Jewelry, a family-owned jewelry retailer that designs and crafts 90% of its jewelry in Texas, has expanded into Arizona with the opening of two new stores at Arrowhead Towne Center and Chandler Fashion Center in Chandler. The retailer’s annual charm event allows customers to receive a complimentary charm holder (up to a $79 value) with the purchase of two charms. The event runs through Aug. 4. The store at 7700 W Arrowhead Towne Center, Suite 1049, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

This summer Best Discount Furniture and Mattress opened in the former Glendale location of Bed, Bath & Beyond at 7340 W. Bell Road. The store is open from noon to 6 p.m. every day. For information, call 602-620-3470.

On July 11, the Glendale Chamber of Commerce led a ribbon cutting for The Scribbled Hollow, Glendale’s newest independent bookstore and mystical emporium, at 5719 W. Glendale Ave. The bookstore offers authors' visits and book signings, card gaming, poetry slams and cosplay

Doobie’s Smoke & Vape Shop opened this spring at 15224 N. 59th Ave.

Temporary closure

The Chick=fil-A store at 5908 W. Thunderbird Blvd., closed in early July while APS provides an electrical upgrade to the store. This location should reopen before the month ends.

California-based Vallarta Supermarkets will soon open a 60,000-square foot grocery store at 5836 W. Camelback Road.
