OPINION — I was extremely disappointed in your article “Peoria Unified prohibits literature works based on ‘No DEI’ policy” in the recent August/September 2026 Peoria Independent, as this published article is not based on facts.
Those three literature books were not banned by PUSD curriculum committees. They were relocated within the PUSD curriculum where age appropriate and supportive for subject course and grade placement. As a community person serving on the curriculum committee, we made recommendations for supplemental books to balance and support courses for inclusion with the approved textbooks.
There were hours and hours of committee members time, deep dives in lit research, and evaluation of reading materials used to select the best materials for all PUSD students and courses. Please dig deeper in your research prior to publication, as facts are critical for we the people.
