The Matt Shott Arizona Hockey Legacy Foundation, dedicated to raising funds to support hockey programming and the growth of the sport in Arizona, has fall sessions of Shott’s Tots live at six rinks across the state, including AZ Ice in Gilbert.

Shott’s Tots is a Learn-to-Play hockey program hosted in cooperation with the National Hockey League, USA Hockey and local hockey rinks and organizations.

Designed for children ages 5-11, the program consists of eight on-ice sessions with head-to-toe hockey equipment to keep including hockey skates, hockey stick, equipment bag, helmet, neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, hockey socks and Shott’s Tots jersey.

The normal cost is $300, and returning players are welcome for a discounted price of $175.

The main goal of Shott’s Tots is to teach children foundational hockey skills including skating, puck handling, passing and shooting, to set them up for success in the sport moving forward.

Each session follows an athlete-first development curriculum led by experienced coaches who focus on skill-building, confidence, and creating a positive on-ice experience. The program is meant to allow children to fall in love with hockey and gain knowledge while having fun.

Participants will be directed into local rink ecosystems where they can continue to play hockey at various levels including Clubs, Mini Mites and Youth hockey leagues.

Registration is about to open for the AZ Ice Gilbert fall Shott’s Tots program. It begins on Sept. 14 and runs through Nov. 9.  Learn-to-Skate may or may not be required before registration.
