Johnny Owens, the youngest son of Buck Owens of Buck Owens and the Buckaroo and Hee Haw fame, is coming to the Higley Center for the Performing Arts with the Bakersfield Sound to perform at a Feb. 17 concert.
Owens and the members of the Bakersfield Sound provide an interactive musical journey of the history of the Bakersfield Sound, the genre that has globally influenced country and rock music since the 1960s. They perform mega hits of Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam and more.
Johnny Owens formed The Bakersfield Sound band in 2021. The band consists of five musicians from Bakersfield, California. T
he members of the band are Kyle Appleton on lead guitar, Stryder Callison on pedal steel, Ernie Lewis on Fiddle, Chad Persel on bass guitar and Kyle Burnham on drums.
Owen and the band members have been longtime friends connecting through their love of music and involvement in the Bakersfield country music scene. They specialize in the sounds of the key artists who were pioneers in the development in what is today known as, “The Bakersfield Sound.”
Their sound fuses a twangy, hard-driving deep pocket with a raw approach to country music.
