Gilbert will host its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, at the town's 9/11 Memorial Plaza.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as well as the first responders who assisted during and after the events.
Following the ceremony, a Tribute in Light will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Two beams of light will be projected into the sky as a symbolic representation of the World Trade Center's twin towers.
The event will be held at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza, 50 E. Civic Center Drive, Gilbert, outside Town Hall.
Residents also are encouraged to participate in community service activities as part of the National Day of Service. Additional volunteer opportunities will be available in Gilbert on Sept. 12.
