Gilbert Parks and Recreation received two awards at the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association's 76th Annual Conference & Expo in Phoenix.
George Tole, a recreation coordinator at Cactus Yards Sports Complex, was named Young Professional of the Year. The complex's indoor youth soccer program also received the Outstanding Sports Program award.
The honors recognize Tole's contributions during his nine years at Cactus Yards, where he has helped expand programs and facilities.
Under that growth, the complex has earned multiple recognitions, including six USSSA Arizona Outstanding Park of the Year awards and designation as USSSA Complex of the Year in 2021.
The indoor youth soccer program launched by Tole now serves more than 2,050 children annually at full capacity. The program also includes clinics for waitlisted participants and a camp designed for children with special needs.
In addition to his work in Gilbert, Tole serves as chair of the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association's Young Professional Committee. He was also selected to co-chair the association's annual conference this year and received the President's Award for that role.
The Arizona Parks and Recreation Association's Annual Conference & Expo brings together parks and recreation professionals from across the state and recognizes outstanding programs, communities and leaders through its annual awards program.
