Gilbert opens applications for task force on teen violence

Group will have at least four teens on 11-member panel

Gilbert has opened the application process for the reconstituted Community Engagement Task Force, which will address teen violence as its next focus area.

The town is seeking teen and adult applicants for the  task force, which will have 11 regular members, to include no less than four teens.  The teens must attend a school within the Gilbert boundary, and must not be a senior in the 2023-24 school year.  In addition, the Task Force will include two adult alternates and one teen alternate.

The task force will examine existing resources — including recent school survey results, town programs, partnerships with schools and nonprofits, current webpages, etc. — identify gaps, and prepare recommendations for Gilbert Town Council in the areas of resources, education, and promotion.

The term will end after advising is completed on the assigned projects and issues if council does not assigns any other tasks.  The initial meeting would likely take place in June, with a final report due to the council expected in December.  More information can be found here.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the subject of teen and young adult violence in the community and centered on recommendations and improvements through exercises and dialogue, according to the town.

The town is asking that all participation should be solution-focused and done with respect, honesty, and transparency.

Applicants must complete a one-way video interview after the application is submitted. A link will be provided in application receipt.

All members must be Gilbert residents.

The Task Force will likely meet once per month, June-December.

These are volunteer, unpaid positions.

Anyone who would like to apply can do so online at
https://commissions.gilbertaz.gov/apply/  or can request a paper application by contacting  Judy Martinez at 480-503-6791 or judy.martinez2@gilbertaz.gov.

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m., Monday, May 6.

Additional information is available by calling the Clerk’s Office at 480-503-6791.
