Gilbert council candidates pledge more civility in campaign's final months

The two candidates in a runoff for the remaining open Gilbert Town Council seat plan to continue to approach the election in the same manner as they had been: a calm, issue-oriented campaign.

Aaron Accurso and Kenny Buckland expressed respect for one another after election results from the primary showed neither had qualified to be outright elected council member with just a sliver of difference in the voting.

Accurso, a back-office manager at Poco Verde Landscape, finished second with 18,476 votes or 24.88%. Buckland, a retired Gilbert police commander who is director of strategic partnerships for Safety Services Co., was third at 18,109 votes or 24.39%. Monte Lyons was outright elected to the first open seat.
